West Clubs Women’s Hockey League

South Division

A LAST-GASP strike condemned struggling Bude to a 2-1 defeat at home to leaders Caradon.

Despite the awful conditions, the game started quickly with some good passes and strong tackles from both teams

Bude were put under a lot of pressure in defence but with some brilliant tackles from Louise Shepherd and Robyn Pengilly coupled with goalkeeper Amy Gear making crucial saves, the score remained goalless.

Nim Panesar and Charlotte Gist made some fantastic runs down the wings which created some good chances for Bude which then led to Leanne Stanbury having a one-on-one with the keeper.

With Lucy Storry intercepting passes and making runs from the middle, Ruby Bryant and Tilly Daniel were able to create space in the Caradon defence, with a few close calls. Bude went into the break at 0-0.

Bude started the second-half under a lot of pressure with Caradon giving them very little time on the ball. The defence held out well for a long period of time as Eve Langman, Clarey Westaway and Miranda Roper held their ground, with Cara Phillips distributing the ball well across the pitch and Anna Elliot doing likewise on the right-wing.

Katharine Muller applied great pressure and sent some amazing passes through, but then Caradon passed a ball across the D and a player at the back post slipped it over the back line.

Bude responded well and soon came back with a fantastic goal from Stanbury.

With very little time left on the clock, Bude gave away some short corners which applied more pressure allowing Caradon to score a sloppy goal in the last minute.

Bude make the trip to Kelly College to tackle Tavistock on Saturday (2.30pm).
