BUDE Bridge Club members Alan Biggs and David Clarke have both been promoted to National Masters by the English Bridge Union. They have been congratulated by their fellow clubmates on this tremendous achievment. • Meanwhile, relative newcomers to duplicate bridge, Annie and Mike Quartermain, have been promoted to Area Master and Local Master respectively. • Seven current and active members feature in the royalty section of the EBU National Grading Scheme. They are Chris Nichols and Stephen Clifton (Queen); Charles Clifton, Alan Biggs and Colin Hollister (Jack); and Jane Koldewey, Ann Bennett and Brian Rogers (10). • Jane Koldewey and Chris Nichols were runaway winners of the Kings Arms Trophy whilst the Collian Bowl was won by Noreen Heslop and Peggy Cann. • There were several other winning partnerships during August. Stephen Clifton won with Chris Nichols, Charles Clifton and Linda Ashworth; Neil Trenaman won with Sarah Trenaman and also with Stephen Smith; Alan Merchant-White and Colin Hollister partnered each other to win twice; and Mary and David Hicks, Bob and Ann Bennett, Sylvia Rogers and Christine Theobald each came top once.
