LUCK was with the organisers and entrants of the Sampson Solicitors Bude Quadrathlon 2013, as the days either side of this event were terrible.

However, on Saturday, September 14 the rain and wind stopped and the sun came out to shine over this world class sporting event. Competitors travelled across Europe to take part in this World Cup qualification event and were not disappointed with the race or the level of competition.

This extreme sport, supported by Gemma Sampson of Sampson Solicitors, Bude, and organised by Shoreline Extreme Sports, comprises a 800m sea swim, a double loop within Summerleaze bay, protected by the breakwater; a 30km cycle following the coast road to Widemouth, Wanson Mouth and Millook before meeting the A39 at Wainhouse Corner and returning to Bude; a 10km kayak paddle, which is a double loop of the Bude Canal; and finally a 10km run along the canal towpath to Helebridge, following the marked footpath across the fields to Widemouth and returning to Bude via the coastal path.
