DUNHEVED ladies secretary Lindsey Worth was crowned Group Two Four Wood Singles champion on Sunday, June 1 after two days of competition.
Ladies from all over the area battled it out on various bowling greens on both days, including Dunheved’s Helen Leeder who is a relative newcomer.
She made it all the way to the green semi final, even knocking out the reigning champion in the process.
But it Lindsey that impressed once again. She started bowling in 2022 and has found a hobby she is very talented at. Bucking against the stereotype of bowls being just for those in later life, Lindsey is only 29 and now wishes she had joined earlier!
Lindsey’s competition began at Wadebridge where her first game was against Di Barr, a member of fellow Launceston-based club, Kensey Vale. Di is a relatively new but talented player but Lindsey eventually proved slightly too strong, winning 21-15.
The next game was against the reigning Champion of Champions for the area, Heather Jones, who plays for Bodmin. This was a close match throughout, but Lindsey pulled another victory out of the bag, taking it by just a point at 21-20.
The next day (June 1) saw the competition move to Callington where Lindsey took on Wendy Fettner from Kensey Vale in the semi-final where it was another close-run thing, but against Lindsey emerged victorious, running out winner by 21 shots to 18.
The final saw Lindsey take on Jenny Horncastle from Bude.
Lindsey had to find inner strength to catch up after some shots didn’t go her way, but she kept going and took the trophy – the first time someone from Dunheved has won the trophy in over 42 years.
Lindsey now plays the county finals at Bodmin on Saturday, July 5.
Her club mates will be cheering her on and supporters are welcome!
