BOSCASTLE and Crackington Gig Club’s ladies achieved their best ever results at the Cornish County Gig Championships in Newquay earlier this month.
Both the A and B teams progressed to the second-round for the first time in the club’s history.
The A team were disqualified for a bump on the first mark, but the time they posted would have resulted in finishing in joint 33rd place, up from 52nd at the World Championships on the Isles of Scilly at the start of the season.
The B team, who have been smashing their races all through the regatta season, finished a fabulous 45th, halving their 90th-placed finish on the Scillies.
A club spokesperson said: “Fantastic progress has been made by both crews and a massive thanks must go to Tony Denford who coxed both crews on the day, no mean feat in the mayhem that are the Newquay Ladies Championships.
“Best of all, everyone had a cracking time in what was a great weekend for the club.”
The club are also running a series of beginners sessions at Tamar Lakes in the next few weeks.
