AN innovative idea to give people with disabilities the chance to row in a Cornish Pilot Gig, has come to fruition.
In a partnership between British Rowing, Cornwall Sport Partnership and Boscastle and Crackington Gig Club, the first session was held at Upper Tamar Lakes a couple of weeks ago.
Almost 30 young people and adults from Duchy College, Liskeard Echo Centre and Launceston Day Centre were given the opportunity to row in teams of six.
The sessions are being organised by Nick Holmes from BCGC, in conjunction with Cornwall Sport Partnership, and British Rowing.
A grant from British Rowing was used to purchase a gig boat simulator, to allow the participants to practice their stroke before sitting in the boat.
These rowing sessions between 11am-3pm will be held every two weeks throughout the summer to enable as many people as possible to experience the sport of gig-rowing.
The next date is today, Thursday, April 28.
