OLDER Aldershot supporters will remember that it was a no-nonsense Scotsman who led the club to its first ever promotion back in 1973.

That was Tom McAnearney, who achieved it in his first season as manager, and fans will be hoping that another man from north of the border, who also speaks with a broad brogue, can do something similar next season and get Aldershot Town back to the Football League.

That man is Barry Smith who was announced as the new manager on Monday, with former caretaker Chris Barker as his assistant.
