FORCE 5 gusting to 7 was correctly forecast so many skippers stayed at home ahead of Sunday's racing at Upper Tamar Lake.
Bob Sampson, reduced to a 4.7 rig, got away first and stayed there. Adam Hilton, with a small sail on his Solo, was second closely followed Nathan Pollard's Topper.
Then came Nicky and John Buckett in a Bosun with Otter sails, and the courageous Simon Veale and Nicky Clay in their Bosun with full rig.
The course was simple; basically up to Pinkie and back — all gybes avoided! On the reach back the imperious Simon overtook Nicky, and when Adam got stuck in irons at Dam Green, inherited third place.
Nathan capsized in the turmoil that was the middle of the lake, but was soon sailing again.
The main question on lap three was whether Adam would manage to regain a lead over Simon — he didn't.
