THIS year’s Tarka Group Rally was hosted by Clawton Young Farmers’ Club and saw all six clubs well represented in the static and on the day classes.

The group was made up of young farmers from Buckland Brewer, Bradworthy, Clawton, Lewdown, Winkleigh and Woolsery.

The rally commenced at Tetcott Village Hall by the kind permission of Simon Axford.

A spokesperson said: “We were extremely pleased to have nearly 800 entries. With many new and exciting classes throughout the day there was something for everyone.”

The individual prizes for the ‘18 and over’ section were given to Gemma Bealey, from Buckland Brewer, for the ladies and the male winner was Gareth Hutchings, from Clawton.

The ‘under 18’ class was won by Roxi Smith, for the ladies, and the male winner was Sam Merchant, also from Clawton.

The following weekend concluded the rally, with the stock judging hosted by the Banbury family at Frankaborough Farm and the Hutchings family at Box’s Shop Farm.

Dairy, Beef and Sheep stock judging took place throughout the day, which saw a great amount of members competing — especially as this was the first time of holding it separately.

The day concluded with the final results, which saw the clubs points adding up to give the final scores. The final results were: 1st Buckland Brewer, 2nd Clawton and 3rd Bradworthy.

The spokesperson added: “Clawton YFC would like to thank all those that competed throughout the two days of this year’s rally.

“Special thanks to the many judges and stewards that made the day run so smoothly. It was a pleasure to host the rally and we were extremely fortunate to have the kind sponsorship to enable the day to be such a great event.”
