A SCHOOL in North Cornwall has announced early that it will be closed tomorrow (January 6) amid dangerous weather concerns.

With yellow weather warnings for snow and ice issued for the coming days across Cornwall, one school in the Duchy has revealed that it will be closing only one day after students returned for the new term.

One school which has announced its closure is Launceston College.

In the announcement, a spokesperson from the school has sited the safety and well-being of students, staff, and families.

The spokesperson explained: “Due to the current and overnight forecast weather conditions of snow and ice, Launceston College will be closed on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 to ensure the safety and well-being of our students, staff, and families.

“We understand that school closures can cause disruption and appreciate your understanding and support.

“During today's Inset Day, it has become clear that large portions of the site, including our entrances and car parks, are covered in ice which despite our best efforts today remains a health and safety issue. The safety of our school community is always our top priority and there have been numerous reports of hazardous road conditions, which could affect travel for both students and staff.

“To support learning from home, our online curriculum is available here: www.launcestoncollege.uk/remote-learning.

“Students can also access homework and resources through Carousel, Sparx, and our other learning platforms.”
