DOES Bude need yellow lines outside the front of Lloyds Bank? Common sense would be no, but try asking anyone in authority. The only answer I have had given is that they do not want anyone parking there all day, but why penalize genuine bank customers?

Surely there must be another simple way of enforcing this without yellow lines. Perhaps a sign saying bank customers only, then if the CEO sees you coming from anywhere but the bank a warning could be given.

The CEO only has to look in the bank to see if there is a large queue when a bit more time might be needed for banking purposes, but I would have thought most customers were in and out within 15 minutes.

Just like the correspondent in last week's article thought, I have witnessed the CEOs hanging around that corner waiting to pounce. You have a good view of what goes on from a nearby cafe, then when the CEO moves off, cars are being parked outside the bank straight away causing no harm whatsoever.

I have also seen the local PCSO hanging around with the CEO, I'm not sure what's going on but as a council tax payer I would like to see better use of my money, surely the CEO should only need police presence if and when there is an incident.

To prove the point they were both attending the front of my car with the CEO still holding the penalty notice in his hand when I came out of the bank. I was the one who felt threatened by the two of them being there, thinking to myself if I'm not careful I might end up in a police cell.

Having discussed the matter with both of them quite politely and made my feelings known, I told them I would appeal, but what amazed me was they were of the opinion Bude Town Council were responsible for the lines being put there and told me to take it up with them.

Which I did the following Monday. I spoke to a nice lady on the phone who said the yellow lines were nothing to do with them, which I already assumed anyway.

Having spoken to someone on the phone at the police station, the yellow lines were nothing to do with them but they enforce them, told me to speak to North Cornwall District Council Highways. So phoned NCDC complaints, nothing to do with them but another nice lady gave me a phone number for Cornwall County Highways. Spoke to another nice lady who passed on my question of why do we need yellow lines outside Lloyds Bank at Bude?

Next morning, a phone call from the local area officer for highways who quite fairly stated that they didn't want cars parking there all day. But that's the point, I don't want to park there all day so said I wasn't happy with his explanation so was given a phone number for Truro to ring. Rang this number, well and behold another nice lady answered, she took details of the question I wanted answering and would send it to the appropriate persons.

I thanked her for being so obliging and have heard nothing since. Am I fighting a losing battle here or can we have some people power in Bude and have common sense prevail?
