CLIC Sargent has expressed huge thanks to their friends at Sainsbury’s Bude for raising £3,667.33 for Young Lives vs Cancer after a fantastic year of fundraising.

Local volunteers and Sainsbury’s staff worked tirelessly throughout the year organising events from bake sales, collections to even cycling 113 miles instore, the same distance from Bude Sainsbury’s to the closest Children’s Specialist Centre in Bristol.

The local CLIC Sargent fundraising engagement manager Jordan Anderton said: “It has been a great year. We aimed to raise £1,000 at the beginning of the partnership and to reach over £3,500 in testament to the commitment, enthusiasm and generosity of the staff and customers.

“Justine and Lesley from Sainsbury’s Bude did an amazing job and should be proud of what they have achieved.”

For many young people, their cancer journey would have started with a trip to the closest specialist hospital, for diagnosis and treatment; in Bude a young person would need to travel to Bristol for treatment, many miles away from university or home.

While the young person is undergoing treatment in hospital, CLIC Sargent provides their family with free, self-catering, homely accommodation a short walk from the treatment centre.

CLIC Sargent’s Home from Home allows families to spend time together as well as be in close proximity to the hospital throughout their child’s gruelling cancer treatment.

The money that was raised by Sainsbury’s Bude could fund a room in a CLIC Sargent Home from Home for over three months.

Store manager, Stephen Gent added: “It’s been fantastic to see the way everyone’s pulled together since we started working with CLIC Sargent. We’ve enjoyed coming up with ways to support and volunteer for this very worthy cause and it’s great to think that we’re making a positive difference to so many people.”
