THE Rotary Club of Bude recently held its special Christmas meeting, with a total of 120 members enjoying a festive meal and carols, with Bude Town Band accompanying at the Falcon Hotel.

The meeting, held on Monday, December 12, saw a Christmas message given by Debbie Marsh of Bude Central Methodist Church, and the Eric Chadd Award was presented by president, Bob Willingham, to Martin ‘Mini’ Fry.

The Eric Chadd Award is given to someone nominated for their special work in the community over a lengthy period of time.

Mini has been a stalwart of the Bude community, being a member of the Surf Life Saving Club and the rugby club for many years, and keeping the local beaches safe for 35 years.

Club president, Bob Willingham, said: “What better person to receive the Eric Chadd Award than Mini Fry!”

Additionally, over £500 was raised by members for the Rotary Foundation Appeal by choosing to donate money, rather than send Christmas cards to each other.

These funds help the fight against polio throughout the world.

Since the PolioPlus programme’s inception in 1985, more than two billion children have received the oral polio vaccine.
