A WOODBURNER fire in the Davidstow area was attended too by crews from Delabole and Launceston on Friday, November 11, at 6.41pm.

Crews used a stirrup pump and chimney rods to extinguish the fire, they were detained on scene for a while.

During 2014 and 2015 firefighters from Cornwall tackled 204 chimney fires. Most chimney fires are preventable. Regular inspection and cleaning of chimney flues will help prevent fires within chimneys.

The fire services are urging anyone who is planning to light their fire over the winter period to ensure it is swept first. The cost of a chimney sweep is very small when compared to the damage and cost of repair from a fire.
