POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a serious collision occurred on Tuesday, January 3, between two vehicles on the A3072 at Killatree Cross, Holsworthy.

Emergency services were called just before 7pm after a collision between a Ford Fiesta and a Ford Transit panel van.

The Fiesta was travelling Eastbound along the A3072 towards Holsworthy when it was involved in the collision with the transit van, which had been traveling in the opposite direction towards Bude.

The driver of the Fiesta, a 19-year-old man, was trapped within his vehicle for over an hour whilst emergency services worked to free him.

One fire appliance from Holsworthy attended the scene, along with appliances from Bude and the rescue tender from Bodmin.

Crews got to work to assist in the extrication of the occupant using three sets of hydraulic cutting equipment and small tools.

Fire crews also administered oxygen therapy and entonox to the man.

A police spokesperson said he suffered potentially life-changing injuries. Whilst serious, these injuries were not deemed to be life-threatening and he was airlifted to Derriford Hospital in Plymouth via the Devon Air Ambulance.

The driver of the transit van was uninjured in the collision.

The A3072 remained closed for almost seven hours to get the driver out of the vehicle, and recovery. Diversions were implemented by Highways England.
