BUDE-Stratton Town Council's January 5 meeting was the last Cllr Roger Rowland will attend as a member, having earlier on in the day tendered his resignation from the authority.

Roger, who served on the council from September 2006, said: "It is with some sadness that this week I tendered my resignation as a Bude-Stratton Town Councillor. It has been my privilege to represent and serve the people of this community for the past five and a half years.

"During that time I have worked alongside other colleagues on the Heritage and Culture Committee, the Finance Staffing and General Purposes Committee and the Planning Committee. I have chaired the latter committee for the past four years.

"When I first put my name forward to sit on the council it was as a reaction to hearing me criticise what was perceived to be the disarray of council meetings and disrespect shown by councillors. I made a decision that instead of criticising those doing the work, I would join them and help effect any changes that were necessary."
