WILD swimmers will be plunging into the River Tamar on Sunday alongside the Saltash Regatta celebrations.

Forty-two people from across Cornwall and Devon, including local swimmers from Saltash and Downderry, will be taking part in the event, which is known as 'Wild Swimming'.

The swim for charity to Devon from the Cornish side will commence on the high tide at 3.30pm. Money raised is for The

Chestnut Appeal for prostate cancer based at Derriford Hospital.

At just under a mile across, the swim will take about 20 minutes for the speediest and twice as long for the more leisurely swimmers. The water temperature will be about 14 degrees.

Organiser Pauline Barker says this is the third time the wild swim across the River Tamar has taken place, the first being part of the events celebrating the arrival of the Olympic Torch in 2012.
