THE Bude based community beach clean group, Widemouth Task Force (WTF), have recently completed their 100th beach clean.
Taking place on Thursday, August 25, an incredible number of 38 supporters came along to take part, collecting an astonishing 42 bags of debris and litter from Salthouse, Widemouth and Blackrock on WTF’s 100th beach clean.
After the clean, the group celebrated by tucking into delicious hotdogs and burgers, prepared and cooked by Rachel Shorland.
Ado Shorland, leader of the WTF group, said on their Facebook page: “Big thanks to Rach for the sausage sizzle, all cooked in the van; the coastguard team for giving their time before training tonight, and all you other beauties for sharing a special milestone in the story of Widemouth Task Force!”
He added: “There’s so much going on in and around Bude regarding plastic pollution and caring for our rivers and beaches, and a lot of it having roots set in WTF, we should all hold our heads high and feel proud, doers get things done!”
Ado also posted some statistics about the 100 beach cleans WTF have completed. The total number of volunteers since WTF first began their mission to tidy up as much litter from their local area as possible currently stands at 3,200 over the 100 cleans they have taken part in.
This shows a total of 2,832 bags of rubbish and debris that have been collected, with a total weight of 42.48tonnes.
WTF also supported the Plastic Movement, a group created by Bude’s lifeguards to rid the town of its plastic pollution, on September 11, with their Dawn ‘til Dusk beach clean.
