THERE was a real buzz in the WI marquee at this year’s Launceston Show on Thursday, July 27, with a wonderful array of all types of creativity from sausage rolls to draught excluders.

This year’s corporate theme ‘A Shop Window’ showcased a selection of shop window displays from six WIs in the area. St Stephens by Launceston came first with 113 points gained overall for their ‘Toy Shop’, followed by Altarnun with 109.5. Hot on their heels coming joint third were Camelford, Coads Green and Launceston with 109 and Bodmin Gaolbirds coming fourth with 108.5 points.

Harry Potter, ‘Hogwart’s Essentials’ by Launceston won best display. Launceston also won the public’s vote for the display most liked.

The cups were presented to the winners by the WI county chairman, Barbara Corbett.

A good day was had by all despite the rain during the morning and the WI is now looking forward to 2018. A spokesperson said: “It would be lovely to see a few more WIs taking part so get your thinking caps on, it will soon be upon us!”
