GOLFERS and staff at Trethorne Golf Club generously supported Launceston Foodbank during the month of June as their Business of the Month.
A huge total of 88kg of food was received into the collection basket, all non-perishable items to keep their stock levels up.
Thanks were expressed to Jon Grainger and Linda Brewer along with all the staff for promoting the Foodbank and to club captain Jon Vidler for choosing Launceston Foodbank as one of his charities for the Year, allowing them to host the putting competition during the club’s fundraising day on June 17 at the club. The competitors generously donated money and food to take part on the day.
Vice-chairman Yvonne King and management committee member, Madeline Potten, went along to collect the food from Jon Grainger and Linda Brewer and to thank them for supporting the Foodbank.
During June 2017, Launceston Foodbank helped 119 people, compared to June 2016 when it was just 58. Continued support for the Foodbank is very much appreciated.
Launceston Foodbank partners who issue the vouchers are aware of the increase and the main reason for the June increase is low income for families. Clients are referred with a voucher to the Foodbank from a partner, some of who are doctors, family centre, churches, schools, health visitors. They do not issue food without a voucher referral.
If you wish to take part as a Business of the Month please contact Anne Lillie at Launceston Foodbank on 01566 779550. If you could spare a couple of hours to volunteer a month either in the shop or the Foodbank, call in for a chat with either Jo or Anne at the shop during opening hours.
