LAUNCESTON Town Council is seeking any group, organisation or individuals who would like to help ‘Clean for the Queen’.
‘Clean for the Queen’ is a national campaign aiming to clear up the streets in time for the Queen’s birthday.
The clean is scheduled in to take place in Launceston on three days — March 4 to 6.
It was decided to invite all of Launceston’s schools to take part on Friday, March 4.
The town council, as the main liaison for the project for Launceston, is keen to hear from anyone who would like to take part on any of the three days.
Those interested are invited to contact the town hall office, giving details of where and when they intend to litter-pick. The council would also like to pin-point any areas not being covered, to help organise the resources needed.
Litter picking equipment will be made available to individuals and groups over the weekend via the town council.
The cleaning up period will be over a two-hour period on Saturday, March 5 and Sunday, March 6, from 10am to noon.
The town council will be contacting all the town’s schools, residents’ associations and organisations over the next few days in the hope that as many as possible will get involved over the clean up weekend.
It is hoped that following the litter picks on the Saturday and Sunday there will be some light refreshments available at the town hall from noon.
• Further details for a big street party in Launceston to celebrate the Queen’s official birthday in June have been announced.
There will be music, food and entertainment for everyone when celebrations take place in the town square on Sunday, June 12, from 11.30am to 4.30pm.
There will be fancy dress competitions for the best dressed ‘King and Queen’ in different age categories — 3 to 8, 8 to 12 and 12 to 16.
There will be a children’s entertainer, bouncy castle, and face-painting. Launceston Town Band will be playing traditional music, and a duo has been booked to sing songs from all eras.
Tables for the street party can be booked at £10 per table for up to eight people, to include plate and paper cups and table cover, with party-goers able to bring their own picnic or purchase food from the outside caterer.
