LAUNCESTON Male Voice Choir chairman Brian Jennings reviewed the events of the year at the annual meeting. These included some memorable concerts, singing at Launceston Show, at two weddings and to the residents of some care homes.
The choir already has a packed schedule for the forthcoming year that includes an invitation to sing in Wells Cathedral in April, linked with a combined concert with Cheddar Male Choir during the annual Spring Tour.
In July they will be part of a combined ‘Men of Cornwall’ choir of more than 200 in Plymouth Pavilions to raise money for Cornish and Devon charities, and an exciting joint concert with Launceston Choral Society. Then in November there will be a ‘Five Choir Spectacular’ in Launceston Central in aid of the Addington Fund for the flood victims of earlier in the year.
The music team, headed by musical director John Beare, has been supported by Jonathan Mann, and the choir has again benefited from the services of Carol Baker as main accompanist. Connie Wade, a well known local musician has also joined the team as assistant accompanist.
During the past year the choir has received donations from Launceston Town Council that together with their own funds has enabled the purchase of additional portable platform staging, and updated their audio amplification units that will be used in a wide range of venues to improve the performance presentations.
Although the membership is more than 50 now, the choir is always keen to welcome potential new members, whatever their singing background or ability. If you have an interest in singing for fun then come along for a ‘taster’ on a Wednesday evening — contact Tony Carter on 01566 773314 for details.
The new season’s local concert schedule starts on Sunday, March 20 at Broadwoodwidger Chapel, and then in Ashwater Village Hall on April 21.
