Stricter water quality guidelines in 2015 will make efforts to meet standards at Summerleaze Beach all the more important to businesses in Bude, according to Cleaner Seas Project manager Ian Saltern. Over the past year Mr Saltern has been running the project with employer Volunteer Cornwall and the Environment Agency, raising awareness of the new, higher criteria and helping people to understand what they can do to help. He told Bude-Stratton annual town meeting last week that a failure to meet the new standards could result in signs being put up advising people not to enter the water at Summerleaze Beach, potentially drawing revenue from tourism businesses in the area.
