So Kenny MacAskill released the convicted terrorist Abdel Baset Ali Mohmed Al-Megrahi who was responsible for the Lockerbie bombing on compassionate grounds because the bomber has terminal cancer. He's supposedly got three months left to live.

Was this the right decision is what's being discussed now. Some think he is an innocent scapegoat, but he was convicted so he's guilty and therefore we shouldn't count this as an argument. Guilty or not, some believe that it was merciful to allow him to go home to die with his family others believe it's an insult to the 270 victims, and their families, of the bombing.

Whatever your views on this everyone must have felt a little sick at the sight of this murderer being received by his countrymen as a hero as he got off the plane in Libya and at the crowd waving Scottish and Libyan flags in celebration.

I would say, "What did you expect?" To most of them we are the evil Western infidel, why would they comply with Gordon Brown's so called wishes for a low key return for Al-Megrahi?

Barack Obama made his feelings perfectly clear by saying it was a "mistake" and that he should be placed under house arrest on his return. I'm not saying we should agree with everything the American's say about terrorism as it has been reported in the past that they have been responsible for funding the IRA in Ireland, but on this occasion I agree with them and the views of most of the grieving families; that a convicted mass murderer should be shown no compassion.

Mark Zaid, a lawyer representing the families of the victims said after the decision: "Governments do not protect the interests of the people, they represent the interests of the country and that is different."

So was Al-Megrahi released on compassionate grounds for the benefit of the people? No of course not, he was released for the benefit of international relations between us and Libya.

Why would we want be to friends with Libya? Because they've got sand and camels? No, because they have oil, and lots of it. In my opinion, that's why a convicted mass killer is now enjoying his freedom.
