A SEAL was found washed up on Crackington Haven beach on Friday, which is thought to have been a result of Storm Doris.
Jennifer Dixon, a member of the Crackington Crew beach clean group, discovered the seal on Friday morning, which was dead when found.
It was measured to be approximately 1.6m to 1.7m from nose to tail, and the corpse was intact, apart from a lesion on the neck and damage to the eyes.
The seal was reported to the Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s Marine Strandings Network, and the appropriate paperwork was filled in by Michelle Robinson Clement and Pete Cooper, also of the Crackington Crew.
With the help of Jennifer, the seal was moved above the strand line for collection.
It is suspected that the seal died during the recent stormy weather.
On Sunday, February 26, an update was given on the Crackington Crew’s Facebook page, stating that the seal had been collected.
For those who find a dead stranded marine animal, it should be reported to the Marine Strandings Network on 0345 2012626.
For a live stranded marine animal, it should be reported to the British Divers Marine Life Rescue, by calling 01825 765546.
