CAMELFORD Royal British Legion is appealing for people in the area to come forward and share their wartime memories.

The branch will shortly be launching its own website, and apart from the standard entries of minutes, dates, photos and other bits of general information, it will be commemorating fallen warriors with photos of the war memorials and headstones.

Part of the website will be set aside for a history section. In this, the branch would like to put accounts of the memories of people born between 1929 and 1939 who resided in Camelford, Helstone, Advent or Davidstow.

Branch secretary, Cameron Valentine, explained: "We would like to hear about how they grew up during the Second World War in this area, their school life, the games they played, what they ate and where they bought it, how their family helped the war effort, and also how their birthdays and Christmases were celebrated and the toys they received.

"Unfortunately, as each year passed, those that were born in that time period are getting less and with them goes all the very valuable memories."

Cameron added: "Please do not let the knowledge of the time pass into oblivion; it will be fascinating for others to read and may help future generations to know what their forefathers went through as they were growing up without mobiles, i-pods and all the other

gadgets that modern youngsters rely on today — please help!"

If anyone has any information the branch is seeking, please contact Cameron on 01840 212524 or email [email protected]">[email protected].
