WALFORD Preschool Playgroup, based in the village hall, is set to commemorate their 40th birthday in style, with a special version of their annual May Fayre.

The event is set to take place on Saturday May 9, and will feature the Ross Town Band, amongst other entertainers, plus a bouncy castle, Mo the donkey, a large tombola, and 'lots of games to keep both old and young happy.'

There will also be locally made crafts available to buy from local makers.

Play Leader Sara Jones told the Review about the aims of the group: "The core belief of the staff is the importance of presenting an array of possible activities, in an airy, open-plan setting. Some activities are planned, others are developed from children's requests or from observed interests.

"They are always very busy playing, developing the important social and communication skills ready for when they start primary school.

She added: "In 40 years of being, Walford Pre-school has seen hundreds of young faces come through its doors. But while the parents and pupils may change, its philosophy of learning through play has stayed the same."

And on the longevity of the group, she said: "I think the secret has been just caring for the children. We have always been so friendly here and everybody is always very welcome.

"It is such a close knit team. The staff know exactly what the children need. And in turn the children and parents know they are in safe hands. Making it an exciting learning experience for the children."

Former attendees of the Walford Preschool Playgroup are also being encouraged to get in touch and share their memories of their time there.

They can be found on Facebook at Walford Pre-School.
