ALL creatures great and small were celebrated at Laneast Church’s fun pet service on Sunday.

The pet service was held for the first time last year, and this year people brought along their dogs and a cat for the ‘brilliant’ afternoon.

There were hymns, prayers and the story of Noah’s Ark, in the service led by the Rev Deryn Roberts, she said: “It was brilliant, a great success again. Because so many people have got pets and it’s a rural area, with farm animals and everything, we thought it would be really good to celebrate pets and animals in general, and bless any of those that come along.

“They were brilliantly behaved — the owners as well! There were lots of waggy tails and smiles. Some of the dogs were joining in with the hymns as well.

“Afterwards the sun came out and we were able to go outside for cream teas and the pets all had treats.

“Donations will hopefully be going to Launceston branch of the Cats Protection League, which the dogs weren’t too happy about, but I said all are created equal in God’s eyes!”

Thanks were expressed to Pets at Home for its donation of pet treats, the Rev Deryn Roberts for leading the service, all the folks with and without pet friends who attended and to those who baked, set up and cleaned up.
