A TOWN council has issued a message of reassurance after recieving a report of a needle in a sandpit.

Wadebridge Town Council, which owns and maintains the popular play park in Egloshayle, said that after receiving a report from a family member that said a child playing in the sandpit might have stepped on a needle, its staff conducted an investigation.

They said that no needle or hazardous object was found after extensive investigations, which included completely emptying the sandpit at the centre of the concerns and carefully examining its contents.

No needle was recovered either by the Wadebridge Town Council parks team, or the family member involved.

Wadebridge Town Council said that it wished to reassure users of the park that it is inspected regularly and they treat reports with utmost importance.

A spokesperson said: “We were made aware of concerns regarding an incident at the sandpit in Egloshayle Park, where it has been reported that a child may have stepped on a needle. At the time of the incident, no needle was seen or recovered by the family member present.

“We have been in direct contact with the family to discuss the matter and provide reassurance. We fully recognise how serious and concerning this situation is and would like to assure the public that we treat all such reports with the utmost importance.

“Our play areas are inspected daily by our parks team to ensure they remain safe and suitable for public use. The safety and wellbeing of all members of the community remains our highest priority, and we will continue to maintain and monitor our facilities to the highest standards.”
