MEMBERS of St Teath Primary School and its local community came together to continue the development of the school's Cornish/Ugandan garden.

The 'Volunteer Gardeners' Day was set up to encourage members of the St Teath community to visit and support the new gardens taking shape at the school by working alongside children.

The range of tasks during the day were many and varied. Fences were constructed, paths laid, land rotivated and raised beds built as well as planting in the new Cornish dry stone wall and preparations made for the construction of a polytunnel.

The weather was perfect for the day and it was wonderful to see every child in school making a contribution to the garden alongside parents and members from the village community.

Headteacher Lee Bacchus said: "Special thanks must go to Amanda and John Evans, Sarah Morey, Tracey Weekes and all the other members of the community who turned out to support the venture. The garden is really taking shape and it is amazing to see how much it has come on in a single day.

"We hope the garden continues to grow and be a valuable learning resource for our children."
