CROWDS packed Bude Methodist Church for a concert in recognition of two members of the community, and their charity work, on Saturday.
A concert with Mevagissey Male Choir for Ray Shaddick and Candy Baker was a sell-out success. The concert, compered by Tamsin Thomas, was organised by Christopher Bale, a close friend of Ray and Vera Shaddick.
The event was organised in recognition of Ray's charity work for Cancer Research UK and Candy's work for Stratton Hospital League of Friends.
Chris said: "Ray has long supported the Old Cornwall Society and during his days on Radio Cornwall promoted many choirs, but always gave a special mention to Mevagissey Male Voice Choir.
"He has been associated with raising funds for Cancer Research UK for many years and was honoured for all his tireless work with the BEM, presented to him by Lord Lieutenant Colonel Edward Thomas Bolitho.
"Likewise, Candy has been a driving force raising funds for Stratton Hospital, keeping it in the 20th century and ensuring Stratton and the surrounding area have a cottage hospital to be proud of. She received the MBE, presented to her by Lord Lieutenant Colonel Edward Thomas Bolitho, at her beloved hospital. Our area has been much enriched by her hard work and devotion."
The audience was treated to a varied selection of music, ranging from the Floral Dance to Bohemian Rapsody. Pieces were also performed in French, Italian and Swahele.
