After an interesting weather forecast leading up to this year’s event, Poughill Revel was blessed with some beautiful sunshine which made for a perfect, busy afternoon.

The Revel was opened by John Weller, who crowned this year’s Revel Queen, Esme Colwill. Ellie was joined by her attendants, Lottie-Rose Swatton and Rosie Veale who completed this year’s Revel Royalty. John also judged the children’s fancy dress and ‘nobbly knees’ competitions which were also very well supported.

Revel-goers enjoyed music from Bude Metric Brass and All@C Ukulele Band, along with lots of pocket money games and stalls — whack a rat, skittles, treasure hunt, hoopla, football, skittles and coconut shy, bric a brac, toys and books, plants, beautiful flower arrangements from Bude Flower Club, facepainting, children’s races, lots of refreshments and homemade cakes.

This year also saw the return of the Dog Show which was also very well supported.

Charlotte Veale, on behalf of the committee, said: “It really was a great afternoon, enjoyed by everyone, and helped along by the gorgeous sunshine (we were so lucky!).

“Once again we raised a wonderful amount of money which will be distributed amongst local charities at our Thank You Evening in November.

“The committee would like to sincerely thank everyone who came along to support the Revel, including all the volunteers and local businesses too. We couldn’t do it without the support, help and hard work of volunteers. It is a precious community event having taken place in the village of Poughill for well over one hundred years and its well worth all the hard work to see everyone having a fantastic time and raising money for so many great causes. We look forward to seeing you all again next year!! If you’d like to get involved or help us to continue the tradition next year, please email [email protected]”.
