CONFUSION over a Launceston's man self-appointed role as town guide stirred opinion at the council's latest meeting, held on September 20.
Town councillors have questioned the role adopted by Kevin Wadland who wears an 'official town guide' jumper, but is not associated with the town council.
At the meeting, Cllr Colin Warne said: "He isn't our official town guide, but he is taking people around the town. It is making us a laughing stock. We have Arthur Wills who is the town guide. Someone asked me who appointed him."
Cllr Brian Keighley added: "I have had similar complaints, someone has asked if he is receiving payments."
Town clerk Rita Skinner pointed out that she had a conversation with Kevin and he explained that he was providing information if someone got lost.
Mayor, Rob Tremain said: "It is a difficult situation we have found ourselves in, he isn't our official town guide, it is off Kevin's own back."
