THE UK's biggest sale of TB restricted cattle was held by Kivells Auctioneers this week.

Sales took place at Holsworthy, Hallworthy and Exeter and the firm has sold over 1,000 cattle from TB restricted farms from all parts of the region.

The first of three auctions took place at Holsworthy Livestock Market on Monday, which saw buyers in attendance from as far afield as Gloucestershire, Penzance and Axminster. Top call of £1,072 was for 16 limousin steers at 17 months old from the Goaman family of Shebbear. Their best eight sold at an average of £1,045.

Speaking after the sale, auctioneer David Kivell said: "We saw a good entry of cattle sell to a superb trade with many of the first and second quality cattle seeing little or no deduction in price for being sold as TB restricted."

Later that day an entry of more than 480 sold well at Hallworthy market, which attracted cattle from farms as far away as Truro, Bugle and Looe.

On Tuesday it was the turn of the Kivells team from Exeter to auction in excess of 300 cattle with plenty flying past the £1,000 barrier.
