STAFF from Sainsbury’s in Bude kindly presented Neetside Community Centre with a cheque for £100 donated from the store’s community budget.
The donation has been used to set up a new knitting/craft group at Neetside Community Centre making ‘twiddlemuffs’, which will then be given free to anyone living with dementia in the community.
Twiddlemuffs are a knitted muff with items attached so that a person with dementia or arthritis can twiddle it in their hands.
People with dementia often have restless hands and like to have something to keep their hands occupied. It provides a source of visual, tactile and sensory stimulation while at the same time keeping hands snug and warm.
The soft knitted muffs contain strands of textured ribbons and various fabrics attached both inside and outside.
The group has been meeting regularly over winter and, along with people knitting at home, has created over 40 twiddlemuffs.
The group will restart again in the autumn at Neetside Community Centre. For more information call Kim or Cathy on 01288 353403. Any donations of wool would be very welcome.
Kim Seaborne, Neetside manager, said: “A big thank you to Sainsbury’s for their very kind donation of £100 to our charity, Neetside Community Centre. This money has been used to set up the knitting group in the centre to produce the twiddlemuffs that can be donated to anyone with dementia.”
Do you know of someone who would benefit from a twiddlemuff? Contact Neetside with their details and the centre will make sure one is given to them.
