I'd like to reassure your readers that, contrary to the comments by Geoffrey Cox MP, TV Licensing does not use bailiffs to recover unpaid licence fees ('Torridge and West Devon MP calls for action to protect families from bailiffs', the 'Post', November 27).
If we believe a household is watching TV illegally, one of our enquiry officers may visit the property to establish whether or not a licence is required, but they would only enter the premises with the owner's permission. In some cases, where access in not granted, a search warrant may be sought to gain access, and the enquiry officer would be accompanied by police officers.
We would always prefer people buy a licence rather than risk prosecution and a fine of up to £1,000, which is why we provide a range of ways to spread the cost. For more information, your readers can visit http://www.tvlicensing.co.uk/info">www.tvlicensing.co.uk/info.
