TREKELLAND Bridge at South Petherwin has been badly damaged again. It is thought to have happened between 10 and 12 pm on Sunday, March 1. Deep yellow paint was left on some of the stonework and both sides of the bridge have damage. The issue was raised at the March Parish Council meeting. Damage to the bridge is happening with ever greater frequency, closure of the road for repairs affects all the surrounding villages, Lewannick, North Hill and Coads Green. It was agreed to invite representatives from interested parishes, County Councillors, County Highways to meet and try and find a way of preserving the old bridge. Ideas discussed at the recent council meeting included weight restriction, narrowing of bridge, road alignment, and diverting of heavy lorries. However, it was pointed out that previous damage to the bridge had included, a Telehandler (farm vehicle) and school bus both of which will always need access to the bridge. If you have any comments on this issue, please telephone the Parish Clerk on 01566 782277.
