A COUNCILLOR and a landlord from Holsworthy, otherwise known as 'man-trekkers' have raised more than £500 by taking part in an eleven-mile charity trek between two rugby clubs.
Richard Prouse from the Rydon Inn and Holsworthy councillor Ken Watson set off from Barnstaple Rugby Club on Sunday week, heading for Bideford Rugby Club via the Tarka Trail for this year's Man Trek, which raises funds and awareness for North Devon Hospice.
This was Ken's second year taking part in the trek, with the weather a significant improvement on last year's blustery conditions. He said: "What a glorious day was provided and armed with our free pasties from Blackwells of Bideford, we set off on the eleven-mile walk with a spring in our step as the weather last year had been horrific.
"A few hours later with some refreshing tea on the way and via The Bar pub in Instow, we arrived in time to watch England beat Wales in the Six Nations. St Austell Ales gave us all a lovely pint of beer to enjoy as well at the end of the trip.
