THE widow of a Great Train robber has given her sincere thanks to the townspeople of Launceston for taking her and her husband to their hearts. It was a town they both came to love dearly, writes Keith Whitford.

Mrs Barbara Daly, the wife of Mr John Daly, aged 81, (whose funeral service we reported last week) was acquitted of being part of the gang involved in the notorious £2.6-million robbery which took place in 1963.

Mr Daly was the only member of the 16-strong gang to be acquitted but his share of the haul — estimated in total to be worth £50-million today — was taken by the men who were supposed to be looking after it for him.
