THE church of St Mary Magdalene, Launceston, is celebrating its 500th anniversary this year and as part of the celebrations, the town received a visit from Bishop of Truro, the Right Rev Tim Thornton on Sunday, May 29.

It was 1524 when the new church of St Mary Magdalene was completed. On August 23, 1890, the Archbishop of Canterbury transferred the patronage of the church to the Bishop of Truro, who still holds the patronage.
