A NEW sewing group has been set up in Launceston.
The ‘Lanson Sewing Ladies’ had their first meeting last week, which was a chance to socialise while honing their sewing skills.
Members made ‘Morsbags’ in the morning with Rene Trewern. Morsbags are reusable, strong bags that can be used instead of plastic bags, which are given away after they have been made.
Everyone brought a plate of food and enjoyed a shared lunch before going on to make reversible shoulder bags.
Jacki Ellis-Martin, who organised the group and meeting, said: “All the ladies go home with something. Beginners are welcome and we all learn from each other.
“The group has that friendship aspect — all the ladies were chatting away. Most didn’t know each other. It’s making friends as well.”
The next meeting of the sewing ladies will take place on February 24, again making Morsbags in the morning, but those not wishing to take part in that activity would be welcome to join the group later in the day.
The next project will involve a zip, following requests from the sewing ladies, and is likely to be a Debbie Shore cosmetic bag.
Those wishing to go along to a meeting must contact Jacki Ellis-Martin in advance. Anyone wishing to find out further information can contact Jacki on 01566 774902 or find Lanson Sewing Ladies on Facebook.
