The Mayor of Holsworthy, Cllr David Smith, would like to extend an invitation to the people of Holsworthy and the surrounding parishes to attend the Town Council's Recreation Exhibition on Wednesday, January 14.

The exhibition, which is being held at Holsworthy Memorial Hall, will run between 2pm and 8pm and will feature future plans for Stanhope Park, the Old Showfield and nature walks and reserves in Holsworthy.

The aim of the exhibition is to encourage residents of Holsworthy to become involved by giving their views on the plans. This will enable the town council, together with the groups and organisations involved, to work towards obtaining the necessary funding to make it happen.

Representatives of the town council, Stanhope Park Community Group, Holsworthy Sports Forum and the Nature Walks' and Reserve Group will be on hand to explain the plans and answer questions.

County, district and town councillor Des Shadrick commented: "The town council, in terms of sporting facilities in the town, is looking five to 15 years to the future. With our new cattle market and a growing population we will have some of the best sports opportunities in North Devon, there is nothing wrong in aiming for the best."

Town Clerk and co-ordinator of the event, Mrs Clare Dalley, said: "Holsworthy Town Council is working for the future of Holsworthy Town. It is imperative that a long term approach be taken regarding recreational facilities in Holsworthy and that all opportunities for funding are taken advantage of.

"It is important to look after our future generations. Everyone should have a voice and we hope this exhibition will encourage people to have their say and voice their opinion."

The Mayor, Cllr David Smith said: "We believe that these plans, which have been drawn up by various local groups and co-ordinated by Holsworthy Town Council, represent the hopes and aspirations of the community. It is essential that as many people as possible view the exhibition and give us 'feedback', whether positive or negative, so that the long and short term development of recreation in Holsworthy provides for the whole community."
