A VISION of the future which could see the long awaited plans for the Holsworthy Agricultural Centre come to life has been unveiled to the public – albeit with a few changes from its original iteration.

Amongst the changes to the proposals for the £7.5-million project is the location — with the proposed agri-business centre now set to be located on the opposite side to Kivell’s Holsworthy market.

At an event held at Holsworthy Market Hall on Monday, the plans were unveiled for the first time to residents and councillors, with attendees including Cllr Ken James, the leader of Torridge District Council, the town’s representatives at the district council, which is overseeing the project and the mayor of Holsworthy, Cllr Jon Hutchings.

The project unveiling gave details of how the £7.5-million will be spent on infrastructure, which it is said will then be intended to enable the site to be developed by third party developers and allow for future employment uses.

Those overseeing the project stated that the application will set out the proposed development parameters with the illustrations displayed only intended to show what the project ‘could’ look like if it attracts third party developers.

It is intended that there will be a hybrid planning application submitted by July 2026, with the project completed by 2028.

Cllr Hutchings, the mayor of Holsworthy, said: “For me, it's a no brainer. It will take the land to the level where it can be developed further by the future council or private investment.

“But the infrastructure has to come first and this is specifically what the money is for. I call on those at Torridge District Council working on this project to make sure it is delivered as soon as possible so that we can finally see the benefits we've long been talking about. This project is long overdue"
