BUDE Jets went into their penultimate match a little wary as the Amethysts are only one of two teams to have beaten them this season, but with the title nearly in their grasp there was a steely determination about the team.

The first quarter went to plan with the Jets shooters Steph Dinshaw and Helen Newton performing brilliantly to put the Jets ahead 8-5. Amethysts made a change for the second quarter and it took the Jets a little while to settle back in but they held their lead into half time 17-15.

The third quarter turned out to be their finest with the defence of Kirsty Dawe, Jane Cann and Sharon Box working tirelessly and linking well with the excellent centre play from Carrie Short and Kelly Swatton they managed to pull away slightly to 29-25.

However, four goals is not a big lead to defend in a quarter and with the Amethysts making another change they showed no sign of giving in. The Jets fought to the bitter end finishing with a well deserved win of 38-32.

The title race is still on and the Jets are able to decide their fate as it all rests on their next result with a win seeing them crowned as champions. Thanks to Jane Cann who stepped in at the last minute and provided a seamless cover in defence and gave a sterling performance.

Player of the Match: Steph Dinshaw.
