SUPPORT has been given by Camelford Town Council to a planning application for a proposed industrial unit at Tregath Business Park.
Prior to the councillors’ discussion during last week’s meeting, Walter Wonnacott, a planning consultant from Bude, spoke during the public participation section.
He outlined the application, submitted by Mr Jon Smeeth, stating that the proposal was an extension of the existing industrial unit, at Station Road.
“The site started its life as a business park about 15 years ago. The units they have there now are all rented out. People have been asking for more for some time. The locality is very positive. It will have a good effect on employment.”
Mr Wonnacott said the economic and social benefits would, in his opinion, outweigh the ‘negligible’ environmental issues.
Cllr Andy Shaw said he knew the site and felt it was a continuation of what’s already there.
“If it does improve the employment prospects I don’t see any concerns.”
Mayor, Cllr Rob Rotchell said the proposal was consistent with the future industrial landscape of Camelford.
All councillors voted in favour of supporting the application.
The final decision is expected to be made by Cornwall Council.
