AFTER the previous week's game we thought it could not get any better but it did! This group of boys showed a lot of self belief and played as a team working for each other, writes Beverley Fuller.
The conditions for this game were perfect the sun shone which allowed the sticky pitches to be playable.
The game started with the forwards taking the ball from the kick off putting immediate pressure on Penryn. The forwards gradually brought the ball forward to allow Dan Pethers to cross the line out wide.
From the kick off Launceston took the ball and gradually worked forwards with some great moves with the backs and forwards working together. Eventually a penalty was given five metres out and from the forthcoming scrum No 8 Jack Grimes peeled from the back to power over the line which was duly converted by Will Hodgetts.
The pressure and presence of the Launceston team was continuous which eventually allowed Guy Webber to cross the line. Almost from the kick off after a lot of forward work the ball was kicked on for Guy to cross the line for the second time.
In previous games Launceston came out the blocks in the second half not having the commitment, Sunday was different; the pressure continued but unfortunately one of the players was sin binned for continual infringements. The boys stepped up to the mark to let Jon Robbins press over in the corner for a try converted by Dan Maddock.
Just after the kick off another Launceston player was sin binned, with Launceston now down to 13 players the boys had to show pure resilience to stop Penryn making inroads on the score. This they did to great effect by keeping the ball tight and in hand. They did this so well that it allowed Jack Grimes to achieve a second try.
This game was closed out with 14 Launceston players on the pitch. A great performance by all but a special mention must go to Dan Maddock for some massive tackles throughout the game. We look forward to taking this attitude and determination through to the final of the plate.
Launceston: Jack Grimes, Keiran Fuller, Tom Perrin, Jake Watts, John Robbins, John Dawe, Guy Webber, Will Hodgetts, Luke Plummer, Harry Pooley, Dan Pethers, Max Bickle, Dan Peterson, Perry Reid, Dan Maddock, Kieran Walker, and Chay Hall.
