THREE police stations within the Launceston Sector are due to be sold.

The Launceston Sector covers Bude, Camelford, Launceston and Callington, with Camelford Police Station, having been previously sold, now a private dwelling.

The Camelford police office runs from within a local school.

The Post has previously reported that Callington police station is due to close in 2015/16, and current plans will instead see provision of a community base in the council office at Callington.

The closure of the station at Launceston and intended provision of a replacement station is planned for 2019-2020. Bude’s is set for closure in 2018/19.

Senior Inspector for the Launceston Sector Paul Norlund told the Post: “We now know that within Launceston Sector, which covers Bude, Camelford, Launceston and Callington, three of the four stations will be sold.

“Camelford Station has been through this process and our police office runs extremely well from within a local school. Callington is already going through this process, the hard work and generosity of the Callington Town Council has ensured police officers and staff will be staying within the town centre, moving to Callington Town Hall.

“Bude will move towards a similar resolution as Callington with officers and staff still present in the town but located away from the current station. Launceston will have a new build to maintain our presence in the town with the details and location not yet discussed.”

On whether Bude-Stratton Town Council will be approached to see if it can provide a community base at council offices, as at Callington, Mr Norlund said: “It is very much an option, to see what properties we can identify locally to keep officers in the town.”

Mr Norlund said he wanted to assure the communities that ‘it is the presence of the police that is key, not the traditional police buildings’, adding that all staff in the Launceston Sector ‘work extremely hard to make this area one of the safest within Devon and Cornwall’.
