NEARLY £7,000 was raised from the St Endellion and St Peter’s, Port Isaac Fete, which was held on Wednesday, August 11.
Hundreds of people visited St Endellion Village Hall for the fete which was opened by former BBC Radio Cornwall host Martin Bailey, and went on from 2pm to 4.30pm until it started to rain.
There was a wide variety of activities and options to keep those attending occupied.
Talking to the Post, a committee member admitted it was great to have it back after a year off due to the pandemic, saying: “The fete has been held for many years in August, but we couldn’t hold it last year because of COVID-19. The idea of holding a smaller fundraising event was touted in February, but then as time went on, enthusiasm grew and we decided to go for a full fete, even though we always had to bear in mind it could be cancelled at any minute.
“It was a great effort from everybody. Even people unconnected to either church willingly gave up their time, putting up posters and doing lots of odd jobs, and the day went really well.
“It was a lovely atmosphere, was really well attended and we managed to raise just under £7,000 for the upkeep of both churches. It’s an incredible amount when you consider it was held in the tiny hamlet of St Endellion.”
There was a variety of things to do for people of all ages.
The spokesperson added: “We always try to have something for everyone.
“There were children’s games and competitions and also a politically-correct Punch and Judy Show which was a great success. There was also a grand raffle, cakes, stalls, plants, bric and brac, books and was all held in the new St Endellion Hall and the adjoining rectory garden.
“We ensured it was very COVID-secure, spread everything out, and people were encouraged to wear masks when in the hall, we were also able to serve the teas and coffees and cakes outside. The organisers would like to thank everyone for their support and help and look forward to next year.”
