BEFORE a large and enthusiastic crowd in Holsworthy's Square last Friday evening former X-Factor finalist Jamie Archer, assisted by resident Helen Davies, who had won the honour in a raffle, switched on the town's Christmas lights, writes Christine Williams.
This was the climax of an evening of festive entertainment, hosted by Matt Woodley of BBC Radio Devon, which had begun with the Horse Band, a classic rock and funk band from Launceston, entertaining the crowd.
Just before the switch-on Holsworthy Town Band, having led a procession of local dignitaries escorting Father Christmas to the stage, provided the accompaniment to a couple of carols.
The evening ended with an energetic performance by Jamie Archer wowing the crowd and demonstrating why he reached the 2009 X Factor final.
