THE Masonic Hall at Bude was the venue for the annual installation meeting of Granville Chapter No.3405 on Monday, November 22.
Thirty Freemasons from the provinces of Devon and Cornwall assembled for the meeting. The companions, as members of the order are known, were delighted to welcome the Second In Charge of Cornish Chapters, the deputy Grand Superintendent Tony Evans. Tony had made the long journey from Falmouth to preside over the meeting.
Due to the restrictions placed on Masonic meetings due to the COVID pandemic, Granville Chapter was unable to take the necessary steps to install new Principals. Those already in office therefore agreed to continue in their respective offices for a further year. In a shortened ceremony they were ‘proclaimed’ by the director of ceremonies and reoccupied their respective positions in the Chapter. Derek Prouse continues as First Principal, Mike Davison as Second Principal and John Weller as Third Principal. After the ceremony the new officers, who assist in the running of the chapter, were appointed by the Principals. Keith Taylor remains as secretary, Arthur Barker as treasurer and Peter Reeve as director of ceremonies.
After the main business of the meeting had been completed a celebration dinner was held in the refectory and a toast was proposed to the Principals to which Mr Davison suitably replied. A raffle and collection raised over £150 in aid of various charities.
The Deputy Grand Superintendent wished the new officers in general and Granville Chapter in particular a happy and successful Masonic year ahead and congratulated the members on their charitable fund raising efforts during a particularly difficult time for all charitable organisations.
The next meeting of Granville Chapter will take place in Bude on Monday, January 24.
